Timokhina (head of the publishing project) Part B contains short-answer and extended-response questions from each of the four options.V. Paper 3 includes 2 parts Part A comprises of one data-based question and several short-answer questions on experimental work along with AHL material at HL. Paper 2 contains short-answer and extended-response questions (and Additional Higher Level (AHL) material at HL). In paper 1 there are 30 questions at Standard Level or 40 at High Level multiple-choice questions. The external assessment of biology consists of three written papers. Student work is assessed internally by the teacher and moderated externally by the IB. This investigation may involve a hands-on approach to the use of databases, modeling, simulation, or a hybrid. Internal assessment accounts for 20% of the final assessment and this is assessed through an individual investigation. While there are skills and activities common to both SL and HL students, students at HL are required to study the options and topics in greater depth along with some additional topics.Ī practical approach to the course delivery is emphasized through the group 4 project and a mixture of both long-term and short-term experiments and investigations. Biology students at both the levels (SL and HL) must take on a common core syllabus and must pass a common internal assessment (IA) scheme. Students are assessed both externally and internally. Key features of the Curriculum and Assessment Models Internal assessment (individual investigation): 20% Internal assessment (individual investigation): 20%ħ. The minimum prescribed number of hours is 150 for SL and 240 for HLĤ. Available at standard level(SL) and higher level (HL)Ģ. Students will develop the skills to work on their own design independently along with collaboration with schools in different regions, to find out the way in which scientific research is conducted.ġ. The investigations may be laboratory-based or simulations and data-based. The science course id taught practically, and students get opportunities to lay investigations, collect data, develop manipulative skills, analyze results, collaborate with fellow students and evaluate and discuss their findings. While scientific methods may take on a wide variety of forms, the emphasis lies on the practical approach.

Through the study of a science subject, the student should be able to know how scientists work and communicate with each other. Many discoveries are in pipeline and great progress is expected in the coming future. Students will develop a strong basic understanding of the nature of science and will be able to describe how acquired knowledge leads to new and different questions.Īt one end of the scale is the cell, its molecular structure, and complex metabolic reactions whereas at the other end, biologists investigate the relation and interaction that make whole ecosystems function. Students will impart their ability to apply and revise their findings in a lot many ways such as professional-level verbal, visual, and written communications. These methods include student’s investigation and inquiry skills, research, analysis, and application. In this course, students will learn to be scientists in exploring the correlation between these core concepts using a variety of methods. Biology is growing at an immeasurable rate and scientists can organize these many facts around several core concepts. Biology is one of the subjects in the Science course of IB.
